Meet Our Staff​

Fr. Adam Johnson

Fr. Adam Johnson is the pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel. He grew up in the Kansas City area attending St. Therese parish. During his junior year at the University of Missouri, he felt that God might be calling him to the priesthood and he entered the seminary. He finished his college seminary degree at Conception and was then sent to study in Rome. He was ordained a priest in 2012. 

 

He was the associate pastor of St. John LaLande, then became pastor of St. Matthew the Apostle Parish. Fr. Johnson became the Diocesan Director of Young Adult and Director of Campus Ministry while serving Sacred Heart Parish and Mary Immaculate Parish. In 2016, Fr. Johnson was appointed Vocation Director for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. On his free nights, he enjoys sitting on his porch with a book or cheering on the Chiefs and Royals.

Fr. Andrew Mattingly

Serving Our Lady of Good Counsel as Associate Pastor, Fr. Mattingly is also the Director of Young Adult and College Ministry. After a semester at Benedictine College, he entered college seminary at Conception Abbey. He then was sent to Rome to study theology. In his free time, Fr. Mattingly enjoys playing disc golf, reading about Church history, and listening to sacred music.

Dcn. Ralph Wehner

Deacon Ralph Wehner was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the dietary director for a long-term care facility in Clayton Missouri when approached by Bishop Finn in 2009 to come to the diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph as the Director of the Office of Worship and Master of Ceremonies. He was ordained to the permanent diaconate in 2006 by his grace Archbishop Raymond Leo Burke.  Deacon Ralph was assigned as prime Deacon to Archbishop Burke and as one of the principal catechists at the Cathedral Basilica and one of the masters of ceremonies. 

 

Currently, Deacon Ralph serves as special assistant to the Bishop and directs the offices of Reclamation and Diocesan Special Events, as well as assisting in the Diocesan Archives. His relationship with Our Lady of Good Counsel began when he arrived in the diocese in 2009 and has continued to serve as Deacon to the parish.

Mark Sappington

Mark grew up in Peculiar, MO, with his father, mother and five siblings. As a child, he was homeschooled and a found a love for Jesus as a competitive altar server. He attended Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO, and graduated with his degree in Economics. Mark played professional baseball from 2012-2017 in the Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays organizations before returning to Kansas City. During this time he fell in love with Jesus and began to practice his Catholic Faith after giving up social media and going to mass daily during the Lent of 2015. He enjoys Waffle House, coffee, and watching people come alive. His favorite thing to do is go out into the world and bring Jesus into conversation.

    Michael Mills

Director of Sacred Music Michael Mills grew up in Lodi, Wisconsin and moved to the Kansas City area in 2015. Michael holds the Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance degree from the University of Kansas and is a candidate for the Master of Music in Church Music degree at KU. Raised in a small, rural parish Michael discovered a love for the Mass early in life through altar service and regularly playing organ for Mass in Middle School. Michael's studies continued at St. Ambrose Academy, a classical High School in Madison, WI where he studied Gregorian chant under the tutelage of scholar and clinician Aristotle Esguerra. In addition to his duties at Good Counsel, Michael serves as Director of the Sursum Corda Vocal Ensemble and City on a Hill's Lux Mundi Schola Cantorum.
